Description
Job Summary:
The Director of Store Layout and Equipment Purchasing is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing all necessary equipment for Vallarta stores. This includes refrigeration units, shelving, check stands, kitchen equipment, and other items. The role involves managing vendor relationships, ensuring quality standards, overseeing budget adherence, and optimizing cost-effective purchasing strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
•
Strategic Planning: Creating and implementing strategic plans related to the physical layout of the store. This involves optimizing the arrangement of aisles, displays, and product placement to enhance customer experience and drive sales.

Floor Plans and Design: Work closely with architects, designers, and store management to develop detailed floor plans. These plans consider factors like flow, product visibility, and aesthetics. Our goal is to provide an inviting and efficient store layout.

Vendor Management: Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely and quality equipment procurement. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms to maximize cost efficiency.

Procurement Strategy: Develop purchasing strategies that align with the company’s operational and financial goals, ensuring the best value for equipment purchases. Implement policies for inventory control and equipment maintenance.

Inventory Management: Coordinate with store management and ensure that the store maintains proper inventory levels. This includes planning for seasonal changes, promotions, and special events.

Layout: Making the store layout customer friendly. Easy navigation, clear signage, and well-organized product displays.
•
Budgeting and Cost Control: Manage the budget for store layout improvements, equipment purchasing; tracking spending, and look for opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality. Regularly review purchasing trends and forecasts to adjust orders.

Quality Assurance: Ensure that all purchased equipment meets company standards, regulatory requirements, and health and safety guidelines. Collaborate with the quality control team to inspect and test equipment as needed.

Market Research: Stay up to date with industry trends, new equipment technologies, and supplier innovations. Identify potential suppliers and alternative products that may improve efficiency or reduce costs.

Preparation: Plan accordingly for busy times (holidays or special sales) to increase foot traffic and adjust the layout accordingly.

Collaboration: Work closely with store operations, facilities management, and the finance team to ensure equipment meets operational needs, budgets, and timelines. Collaborate with store managers to assess equipment performance and determine future needs.
Required Education and Experience:
•
5+ years of experience in store layouts, purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, and store design preferably within the retail or grocery industry.
•
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
•
Knowledge of equipment used in grocery stores, including refrigeration, display shelving, and kitchen appliances.
•
Experience in budgeting, cost control, and inventory management.
•
Creative to optimize limited space and create an appealing layout.
•
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
•
Excellent diligence when planning layouts and coordinating with various teams.
•
Ability to analyze market trends and supplier capabilities.
•
Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
Physical Demands
Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. Some travel and overnight stays from time to time. May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Manage several requests and situations at one time or simultaneously (multitask).
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time exempt-level position; the schedule would be based on business necessity. Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. Monday to Friday (available to a flexible schedule based on needs). May require occasional weekend or after-hours work to accommodate vendor schedules or urgent procurement needs. Commute to stores, as needed.

- Thermal or other Health-Related Information. If you apply in-person or come to our store(s) as part of the application process, we may need to take your temperature or other similar information as part of our health protection policies. However, this information is not retained.
- Inferences. We gather information about your employment history with Vallarta, such as the company location/facility to which you are assigned, position and description of duties, fulltime and part-time status, pay rate, as well as descriptions about your job performance and skills.
