Job Description

Position Summary:

The Recruiting Manager at Vallarta Supermarkets is a personable, approachable, and results-driven individual contributor who plays a central role in attracting and placing top talent across the organization. This role is responsible for leading full-cycle recruiting for corporate positions, managing the end-to-end hiring process for new store openings, and providing flexible support for ongoing store recruitment as needed. The Recruiting Manager brings a customer service mindset to every candidate interaction, representing Vallarta Supermarkets with professionalism and enthusiasm at every stage of the hiring process, and works closely with the Director of Culture & Talent.

The following accountabilities are intended to be representative and not all-inclusive. Management may assign other related functions that are a logical extension of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own the full recruitment lifecycle for corporate roles across all departments, partnering with the Director of Culture & Talent and hiring managers to develop role requirements, craft compelling job postings, and align on ideal candidate qualifications.
  • Conduct resume review, phone screenings, structured interviews, and reference checks; coordinate and schedule interviews between candidates and hiring managers; prepare and send offer communications and assist with onboarding new corporate team members.
  • Serve as the primary recruiting lead for all New Store Opening (NSO) hiring, managing the end-to-end process from pre-launch planning through full team completion, including staffing plans, timeline mapping, headcount targets, and market-specific sourcing strategies.
  • Plan, organize, and lead job fair events in coordination with store leadership and HR, and maintain accurate tracking of NSO recruitment progress to ensure visibility into pipeline health and key hiring milestones.
  • Provide flexible recruiting support for existing store locations during peak periods or as business volume, capacity, or urgency requires.
  • Attract and build a pipeline of qualified candidates through job boards, the ATS, professional organizations, schools, staffing agencies, LinkedIn, employee referrals, and job fairs.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective candidates, providing clear and compelling information about opportunities, company culture, and benefits, and keeping candidates informed throughout the hiring process.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Share market insights, sourcing strategies, and candidate feedback to help improve retail recruiting outcomes across the organization, and act as a go-to resource for fellow recruiters.
  • Participate in team discussions, process improvement initiatives, and cross-training efforts that strengthen the recruiting function.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in the ATS for all assigned requisitions throughout the full recruiting cycle.
  • Assist with preparing and updating job descriptions and qualification requirements to reflect current market standards.
  • Stay current on employment laws, recruiting regulations, and company policies to ensure all hiring practices remain compliant.
  • Track and report on key recruiting metrics, including time-to-fill, pipeline conversion, source effectiveness, and offer acceptance rates.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the hiring process by ensuring equitable sourcing and consistent candidate evaluation, and perform other special projects as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bilingual Spanish required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills, with the ability to cultivate and build relationships.
  • Able to think critically, strategically, and creatively to solve problems, with sound judgment to screen candidates and meet hiring managers’ needs.
  • Ability to understand the business and leadership styles of hiring managers, with strong technical aptitude, sales skills, and follow-up skills.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills and commitment to quality improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to multitask and handle multiple projects at a time.
  • Strong sense of urgency with assigned tasks.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an in-house recruiter or with a search firm.
  • Experience recruiting for executives, managers, and hourly personnel for corporate and grocery/retail stores.
  • Experience with a variety of candidate sourcing platforms, applicant tracking systems, and job sites such as LinkedIn, Monster, Indeed, and CareerBuilder.

Physical Demands:

Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time, including at job fairs and new store opening events. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to candidates and team members and to convey detailed spoken instructions accurately, clearly, or quickly. Manage several requests and situations at one time or simultaneously (multitask).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a management, exempt level position. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as required by operations, including some travel to store locations for new store opening events and job fairs.

We may collect your emergency contact information as well. If you are hired, we may collect additional personal identifiers about you to facilitate the employment relationship.
  1. Characteristics of Protected Classifications under California or Federal law. We may collect your age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, sex/gender, and marital status.
  1. Biometric Information. We may collect your fingerprints to facilitate the employment relationship, if you are hired, and required as part of the hiring/employment process.
  1. Professional or Employment-Related Information. Depending on your role/duties with the Company, we may collect information regarding your criminal history, driving history, and credit history as part of our employment background check. We also collect information regarding your professional and employment history and other qualifications you provide in your employment application, including references, skills/abilities, employment goals and expectations, and other related information (if you choose to provide them).
  1. Education Information. We collect information regarding your professional and education history to the extent provided in your resume/application.
  1. Thermal or other Health-Related Information. If you apply in-person or come to our worksite(s) as part of the application process, we may need to take your temperature or other similar information as part of our health protection policies.
