About the Role

The Fruteria Lead manages the daily operations of the cut fruit department, ensuring quality, freshness, and outstanding customer service. This role supports the Produce Manager in reaching sales and labor goals, reducing shrink, and maintaining compliance with food safety regulations. The Fruteria Lead also provides hands-on training, supervises daily activities, and helps create attractive and well-stocked displays that showcase fresh fruit to our customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist the Produce Manager in planning and controlling Fruteria operations to meet sales, profit, and labor goals.
  • Prepare cut fruit with consistent quality, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Lead team members in customer service, safety, and compliance with company policies.
  • Train and mentor staff while modeling Vallarta’s core values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.
  • Rotate and replenish products, ensuring freshness and compliance with Health Department regulations.
  • Create and maintain attractive fruit displays with proper signage and pricing.
  • Audit pricing, tare weights, and inventory for accuracy and compliance.
  • Order supplies, packaging, and utensils as needed to avoid out-of-stocks.
  • Monitor and reduce shrink by controlling inventory and implementing preventative measures.
  • Greet customers, assist with selections, and provide custom cut-fruit items.
  • Promote sales with suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
  • Follow and enforce Vallarta’s dress code and safety policies.
  • Report team concerns, injuries, or incidents promptly to management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).
  • Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Use hands frequently for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to perishable products.

What We’re Looking For

  • Friendly, customer-oriented personality with leadership skills.
  • 3–6 months of grocery or food retail experience required.
  • Knowledge of fruit preparation, quality control, and merchandising.
  • Ability to train and motivate team members.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Word, Outlook).
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Willingness to transfer to other store locations if needed.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

  1. Information We Collect about Applicants

We need you to provide certain information in order for you to complete your application for employment with the Company. The following provides the categories of Personal Information we may collect about applicants as part of the application process, and/or our employees if ultimately hired.

We may collect your name, driver’s license or state identification card number, passport number or other government identification number (including U.S. work authorization number), Social Security information, residence/postal address, email address(es), phone number(s), and other contact information during the application and recruitment process. We may collect your emergency contact information as well. If you are hired, we may collect additional personal identifiers about you to facilitate the employment relationship.
  1. Characteristics of Protected Classifications under California or Federal law. We may collect your age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, sex/gender, and marital status.
  1. Biometric Information. We may collect your fingerprints to facilitate the employment relationship, if you are hired, and required as part of the hiring/employment process.
  1. Professional or Employment-Related Information. Depending on your role/duties with the Company, we may collect information regarding your criminal history, driving history, and credit history as part of our employment background check. We also collect information regarding your professional and employment history and other qualifications you provide in your employment application, including references, skills/abilities, employment goals and expectations, and other related information (if you choose to provide them).
  1. Education Information. We collect information regarding your professional and education history to the extent provided in your resume/application.
  1. Thermal or other Health-Related Information. If you apply in-person or come to our worksite(s) as part of the application process, we may need to take your temperature or other similar information as part of our health protection policies. However, this information is not retained, and will only be obtained if required by law.
