General Job Description Overview:
The Marisqueria Cashier provides friendly, fast, and accurate customer service at the
Marisqueria counter. This role is responsible for operating the cash register and scale,
accurately handling customer transactions, supporting counter presentation, and ensuring
safe food-handling practices to deliver a positive customer experience. The Marisqueria
Cashier serves as a key point of contact for customers, greeting guests, answering
questions about menu items, and supporting efficient service in a fast-paced supermarket
environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Excellence & Financial Management:

• Accurately prepare, package, weigh, and price selected products to fulfill customer
requests promptly and efficiently.
• Efficiently operate the cash register, scale, and other equipment, ensuring all
transactions are processed accurately and swiftly to maintain a smooth flow of
service.
• Adhere to proper cash and payment handling procedures as outlined in company
policy, ensuring the security and accuracy of all financial transactions.
• Thoroughly balance the cash drawer at the end of each shift, ensuring all
transactions are accounted for and discrepancies are promptly reported to
management.
• Ensure compliance with state laws and regulations concerning weights and
measures.
Food Quality & Compliance:
• Practice safe food-handling procedures at all times.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
• Maintain awareness of proper temperatures and communicate concerns to
leadership.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures related to foodservice operations.
Merchandising & Counter Support
• Set up and maintain counter displays and signage to promote Marisqueria
products.
• Arrange and restock merchandise and counter supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing counter and service area.
• Assist with restocking by climbing, kneeling, or crouching as needed.
Customer Service & Transactions:
• Accurately scale all weighable Marisqueria products using correct tares and
codes/PLUs to determine pricing.
• Operate the cash register to itemize and total customer purchases while following
proper cash-handling procedures.
• Greet, acknowledge, and thank all customers while maintaining a friendly, positive,
and professional attitude.
• Listen carefully to customer requests and ensure accurate order fulfillment.
• Encourage repeat business by providing consistent, courteous, and efficient
service.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
• Support other Marisqueria department functions as needed to ensure smooth
department operations.
• Maintain a prepared, organized, and sanitary work area at all times.
Safety:
• Follow and enforce all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety policies.
• Report all unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents immediately.
• Adhere to company dress code standards and professional appearance
expectations.
• Comply with all store rules and company policies outlined in the Employee
Handbook.
Other Duties:
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
• Support all current and future culinary programs implemented by Vallarta
Supermarkets.
• Maintain flexibility to support business needs across departments.
Knowledge and Skills
• Maintain knowledge of Marisqueria menu items, PLUs, scale coding, and pricing.
• Ensure accuracy in weighing, pricing, and processing customer orders.
• Support efficient service during peak business periods.
Required Education and Experience
• High school education preferred or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
• Food Handler Certification required (or ability to obtain).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
Working Conditions:
• Stand for extended periods of time with frequent walking and use of hands.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally required to climb, kneel, or crouch to restock counter supplies.
• Fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels.
• Availability to work varying shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and
holidays.
Expected Hours of Work
• Flexibility to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

We need you to provide certain information in order for you to complete your application for employment with the Company. The following provides the categories of Personal Information we may collect about applicants as part of the application process, and/or our employees if ultimately hired.

We may collect your name, driver’s license or state identification card number, passport number or other government identification number (including U.S. work authorization number), Social Security information, residence/postal address, email address(es), phone number(s), and other contact information during the application and recruitment process. We may collect your emergency contact information as well. If you are hired, we may collect additional personal identifiers about you to facilitate the employment relationship.
  1. Characteristics of Protected Classifications under California or Federal law. We may collect your age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, sex/gender, and marital status.
  1. Biometric Information. We may collect your fingerprints to facilitate the employment relationship, if you are hired, and required as part of the hiring/employment process.
  1. Professional or Employment-Related Information. Depending on your role/duties with the Company, we may collect information regarding your criminal history, driving history, and credit history as part of our employment background check. We also collect information regarding your professional and employment history and other qualifications you provide in your employment application, including references, skills/abilities, employment goals and expectations, and other related information (if you choose to provide them).

  1. Thermal or other Health-Related Information.
