Ingredients
- Nonstick cooking spray
-
1⅓ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon baking powder
-
5 large eggs
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted and slightly cooled
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
-
4 cups sliced strawberries, divided
-
2½ cups heavy cream, divided
-
2 cups strawberry-flavored whole milk
-
⅓ cup powdered sugar
Preparation
-
Prepare the Cake
Preheat the oven to 325°F. Lightly spray a 13 x 9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder; set aside. -
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, beat the eggs on medium-high speed for 1 minute. Slowly add the granulated sugar and continue beating for about 4 minutes, until the mixture is pale yellow and thick. Add the melted butter and vanilla extract; beat for 1 minute, or until fully incorporated. Gently fold in the flour mixture until just combined.Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the dish on a wire rack.
-
Soak the Cake
Using a fork, poke holes all over the cooled cake. In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, 2 cups of strawberries, 1 cup of heavy cream, and the strawberry-flavored milk. Blend until smooth, then slowly pour the mixture evenly over the cake. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight. -
Whip the Topping
In a large bowl, beat the powdered sugar with the remaining 1½ cups of heavy cream on medium-high speed for about 2 minutes, or until soft peaks form. Spread the whipped cream evenly over the chilled cake. -
Serve
Cut the cake into 12 pieces and serve topped with the remaining sliced strawberries.
